MUSIC FOCUS: Voice of Finland

On the last Saturday of May, Avanti! will be playing at the Helsinki Music Centre with Karita Mattila, one of the most luminous sopranos in the world. Mattila became internationally renowned celebrity when she won the first Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 1983, the same year the succesful Avanti! chamber orchestra was founded. Now their paths cross once again, resulting in music in all the hues of love: longing, deceit, romance and happiness.
